The team completed the 130,000 square-foot renovation of the common areas within Cumberland Mall. Since the mall remained open and operational during construction, it was of paramount importance that several additional precautions be put into place.

The renovation included replacing the ceilings and floors, renovating the mall’s entrances with new facades, installing new escalators in the mall’s atrium, and the complete demolition and renovation of the food court and all the common areas.

Pedestrian protection and coordination were of utmost importance. The team could not close off the work areas to the public trying to access the mall. Whether it was the main entrance, the food court, or even a simple tenant storefront, the public had to be able to pass through the work areas. Temporary pedestrian tunnels, corridors, and walkways were all utilized to allow the public to safely reach their destinations.
