(May 1, 2015) ATLANTA, GA –

Winter Construction has completed the renovation of Asheville Outlets, converting it from an indoor mall to an outdoor outlet center. The 325,000-square-foot shopping center consists of more than 70 retail and restaurant tenant spaces ranging in size from 1,000 square feet to 22,000 square feet. The Boston-based developer, New England Development, is holding a grand opening event on May 1, 2015.

The conversion of a roofed mall into open-air outlets required careful surgical demolition to remove the existing roof and steel beams, exposing concrete and steel girders. Special attention was required to avoid damaging existing portions of the building and to assure fit of the new building structural elements.

Several anchor tenants remained operational throughout the process, which included five months of demolition and eleven months construction.
