Winter completed the new 100,000 square-foot, 175-key Aloft Hotel on top of a recently completed cast-in-place, five-story structure that includes retail, restaurants, and multi-level parking. The site had zero laydown area, so the project team arranged to rent a parking lot nearby to facilitate laydown. Plumbing and other utilities were brought up through the newly occupied base building. Winter also incorporated a customized waterproofing plan to allow the tenants on the first five floors to move in while the hotel was being constructed. Winter also utilized a new style of framing called “the left behind form” system. Using this system, structural frame forms are made of steel rather than wood, allowing the project to progress faster as different trades mobilized and began their scopes of work.
