Rockefeller Hall is the oldest building on the Spelman College campus. Built in 1886, the building served as student classrooms, residences, and administrative offices, until 2005 when it was closed for renovation. The 38,000 square-foot project included federal funding and fell under the jurisdiction of the State Historic Preservation Office; therefore, the project team faced strict requirements for the renovation. Winter restored all of the building’s wainscot and transoms, refurbished all of the windows, installed all new MEP systems and performed ADA upgrades throughout the facility. A major aspect of the renovation was the installation of new floor decking and cross bracing in the old auditorium to provide the building with extra administrative office space on two levels.
