(December 6, 2017) ATLANTA, GA – Winter Johnson Group has begun construction on the City of East Point’s new City Hall, scheduled to be complete in late 2018. The new City Hall will be a 31,704 square-foot, multi-story facility that will sit adjacent to the original historic building.

The project is designed to provide several city offices, a multipurpose City Council Chamber, and an additional 2,424 square feet of shell space for future growth. In addition, the new City Hall’s 30,000 square feet of green space will be the focal point for public gatherings and recreation.

The project’s blueprint is intended to mirror the buildings located on the East Point Historic Civic Block. This includes the original East Point City Hall which will be preserved, built in 1931, the East Point Auditorium, built in 1931, and the New Deal Library, built in 1939. The City of East Point’s City Manager, Fred Gardiner said, “Living in East Point, our residents have the opportunity to enjoy a small town feel in a large metropolitan area. It is important that the new City Hall reflects and complements our historic block and burgeoning downtown.”

“The Winter Johnson Group is honored to be a part of this exciting expansion of the City of East Point, a dynamic area in the region. We look forward to working with the City on making this project successful in its sustainability efforts while paying homage to its historical context,” said Artis Johnson, Managing Member of Winter Johnson Group. Brent Reid, also Managing Member of Winter Johnson Group, added, “Building the new City Hall illustrates East Point’s commitment to economic growth, the East Point community, and a pledge to sustainable development for future residents.”

City officials anticipate that, as an Earthcraft light commercial development, the project will serve as an energy efficient model for future construction in the City of East Point. Earthcraft is a green building certification program that serves the Southeastern United States, promoting energy and water efficiency, building durability, and occupant health and productivity.

The architect is Sizemore Group of Atlanta, Georgia.
